Prof. Dr. Spyridon Kintzios

Honorary Member of the Scientific Committee

Dean of the School of Food, Biotechnology and Development of the Agricultural University of Athens, inventor and developer of the Bioelectric Recognition Assay and the technology of Molecular Recognition through Membrane Engineering. Founder and head of the laboratory of cell technology. He received his PhD in genetics from the Technical University of Munich. He has a working experience of over 25 years in biotechnology, particularly in the fields of biosensors and cell culture. He is the author or co-author of 94 peer-reviewed articles in cited international scientific journals, as well as the author or co-author of more than 80 international book chapters and conference presentations. He is also the editor of four international books, a fellow of several scientific societies and the recipient of several scientific awards.

Prof. Dr. Sascha Rohn

Born in 1973, studied food chemistry at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University of Frankfurt/Main and obtained his doctorate in 2002 at the Institute of Nutritional Science, University of Potsdam. From 2004 to 2011 he qualified as an assistant professor ('Habilitation') at the Institute of Food Technology and Food Chemistry, Technical University of Berlin. Since 2009 he is a professor in food chemistry at the University of Hamburg, Hamburg School of Food Science. His working group focuses on the analysis of primary and secondary metabolites in food and feed. Of particular interest are secondary phytochemicals, their antioxidant activity and the study of the stability and reactivity of bioactive Ingredients during the processing of vegetables.

Leitung der Arbeits­gruppe zur Herkunfts- und Authenti­zitäts­analytik von Lebens­mitteln sowie den Wechsel­wirkungen von Pestizid-Altlasten in landwirtschaftlichen Nutzflächen. Sein Schwerpunkt liegt in der Anwendung von modernen Kopplungstechniken und spektrosko­pischen Methoden in Kombination mit chemometrischen Verfahren.

Prof. Panagiotis Skandamis

Holds Bachelor Degree on Food Science & Technology and a PhD on Food Microbiology. He has worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Animal Science of Colorado State University in USA. In 2004, he joined the Department of Food Science & Technology of AUA, teaching Food Microbiology and Food Quality Control and Hygiene. Since July 2015, Prof. Skandamis is also member of the Biohazard (BIOHAZ) panel of European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Prof. Skandamis has authored 99 original research papers in journals of SCI, 26 book chapters and has a total number of 3423 citations (h-index 27). His research is funded by 5th, 6th and 7th EU Framework Program, National Grants and direct contracts with the Greek Food Industry in the following areas: (i) survival/growth of pathogens, (ii) biofilm formation and removal by chemical and natural disinfectants, (iii) predictive microbiology and quantitative microbial risk assessment, (iv) application of mild preservation technologies; (v) detection, isolation and subtyping of foodborne pathogens from foods and food processing environments and (v) ecology of ochratoxin A-producing fungi. He is Associate Editor in Food Research International and member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Food Protection, Applied and Environmental Microbiology and International Journal of Food Microbiology. Prof. Skandamis has also developed a Predictive Modelling Software tool, entitled GroPIN), which constitutes a database of 400 kinetic and probabilistic mathematical models for simulating growth and inactivation of pathogenic and spoilage organisms under static and dynamic processing and distribution conditions along the food chain.

Prof. Dr. Constantine Yialouris

Professor at the Informatics Laboratory, Agricultural University of Athens, Greece. He has made a significant contribution to the development of pattern recognition software for biosensors based on the Bioelectric Recognition Assay (BERA). His research activity includes Expert Systems, Knowledge Engineering in problems concerning bio and earth sciences, Artificial Neural Networks and Knowledge Management. He has significant experience in Knowledge Engineering and in developing Expert Systems in the agricultural area. He has also published 27 Journal papers and 55 Conference papers in national and international peer reviewed workshops/conferences. He is reviewer of manuscripts in several international scientific journals. He has written 7 books on Informatics (in Greek).
